ELEVAGE: Grapes were crushed, destemmed, pressed and settled at the vineyard's winery. Settled juice was pumped into a 1000 liter stainless steel tank, an ambient yeast fermentation began and continued until the fall of 2014. In November it was racked off its lees, allowed to settle for an additional 7 months and in June of 2015 the wine was gravity bottled by hand without fining or filtration.
TASTING NOTE: 2013 Eminence Road - Riesling - Seneca Lake Vineyard - Extended lees contact make this a very unusual riesling. Aromas of caramelized lime and ripe mango, in the mouth it is full and rich and leesy though surprisingly dry. The finish is stoney, bright and clean. Despite it's unusual profile, at its core this wine is pure riesling that responds well to air--an open bottle will evolve wonderfully over many days. Drink cool but never cold. Pair with bratwurst, pork chops and even firm cheeses.
SENECA LAKE VINEYARD: In and around Lodi, New York on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake, grower Mark Wagner maintains nearly seventy acres of vines contained in six separate plots with soils mostly composed of deeper loam over shale and limestone. Green mulching and cover crops are used to manage weeds and vines are meticulously cared for with an eye towards sustainability. These vineyards produce classic Finger Lakes wines with wonderful balance and clarity.
