2019 Acidalia - Elizabeth's Vineyard
Dry Red Table Wine
56 cases produced
Grape: 45% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc
Alcohol: 11.3%
Total sulfite: 40 ppm (20 at crush, 20 at bottling)
- Whole cluster/foot crushed
- Ambient Yeast
- Old French oak barrels - 11 months
- Unfined and unfiltered
TASTING NOTE: Leafy bramble, red and blue fruit with big, firm, fine grained tannin. Juicy
acids, fruit and herbs in the mouth. Decant four to 48-hours, serve with food.
ELEVAGE: Grapes were foot crushed and put whole cluster, separately, into one ton bins
to ferment with once daily punchdowns. After twenty-three days the grapes were
pressed and settled juice was moved to old French oak barrels to complete fermentation.
In October of 2020 the wine was racked out of barrel, assembled in tank and bottled
by hand without fining or filtration.
VINEYARD: Located in Hector, New York on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake, this west
facing vineyard is composed of shallow silt loam soil over shale on a slope leading to
some of the lake's deepest waters. Farmed by second generation grower John
Leidenfrost and his daughter, Elizabeth, the vineyard's privileged exposure and thin,
shale laden soil produce wines of great depth and backbone.
Tilled up "soil" during some new planting at Elizabeth's Vineyard.
