2022 Gamay Noir - Elizabeth's Vineyard
Dry Red Table Wine
5 Cases Produced
- Grape: 100% Gamay Noir
- Alcohol: 10.9%
- Total added sulfite: 45 ppm
- Ingredients: Grapes, yeast, sulfite
- Foot crushed with 100% stem inclusion
- 20 days on skins
- Stainless steel for 10 months
- Unfined and unfiltered
- Farming: Conventional/sustainable
- Vineyard: Seneca Lake, west facing, steep slope
- Soil: Shallow silt loam over fractured shale
TASTING NOTE: Baking spice, plum, cherry, juicy with chalky tannin and bright acidity.
ELEVAGE: Grapes were foot crushed into a bin with one-hundred per cent stem inclusion and
let to ferment with once daily punchdowns. After twenty days the grapes were pressed and
settled juice was moved to stainless to complete fermentation, including full malolactic,
which finished in July of 2023. In August of 2024 the wine was racked off its lees and
bottled without fining or filtration.
MISCELLANEOUS: The two rows of gamay noir yielded only eight boxes--about two hundred
and thirty pounds--of grapes in 2022. Instead of blending the wine away we bottled it alone
as a kind of novelty. Just five cases and we're keeping one so really four. There's a little VA
but the fruit is nice and the shale comes through loud and clear in this wine.
