2019 BASKET - Elizabeth's Vineyard

Dry Red Wine
24 Cases Produced
Grapes: 50% gamay noir - 50% pinot noir
Alcohol: 11.0%
Total sulfite addition: 30 ppm
Foot crushed - 100% stem inclusion
French oak barrel (20 years old) for 11 months
Unfined and unfiltered
Farming: Conventional/sustainable
Vineyard: Seneca Lake east side
Soil: Silt loam over shale

TASTING NOTE: Ripe strawberry, cherry, clove and old wood. Medium body with chalky acids and fine grained tannin.

ELEVAGE: Grapes were foot crushed and put whole cluster into one ton bins to ferment with once daily punchdowns. After nineteen days the grapes were pressed and settled juice was moved to a single, 20 year-old used French oak barrel to complete fermentation. Fermentation, including full malolactic, finished in July of 2020. In September the wine was racked out of barrel into tank and bottled by hand without fining or filtration.

MISCELLANEOUS: The most "natty" wine we have made in many years, it shows beautiful fruit and texture but will go mousey with extended air. Best to drink it up in one sitting.
